Mount Kazbek

From a base in the Georgian village of Kazbegi (Spetasminda), we hiked up the hill past Sameba Church to the edge of the Gergeti glacier. Mt Kazbek, otherwise known as Mkinvartsveri ("top of glacier") stands at 5033m tall in the Caucasus mountains between Russia and Georgia.

One night in Switzerland

A truly epic micro-adventure. Is it possible to leave the UK one morning, spend the night in the Monte Rosa hut, and return the following evening back to the UK? Yes, it seems!

Sennen Cove

Day 2 of George & Rob's Cornish Granite weekend was spent at Sennen. Cracking sunshine and razor sharp rocks.

Sunshine on Cromlech

What a bloody brilliant piece of rock Dinas Cromlech is. Basking in the sunshine, myself and Steve started on Sabre Cut before heading around towards Noah's Warning. However, after a short nap in the sun at lunch turned into a much longer rest we decided that was enough and headed down. I don't think the views across Snowdon have been this good in months.

Swimming in the Brecons

Another baking British summer day, so what better to cool off than walk upstream from Pontneddfechan and cool off diving from the top of the waterfalls into the plunge pools beneath.

TEDxBrum

This week, I had the honour of speaking at TEDxBrum in Birmingham. The talk, entitled “Soviet Cartography and the Modern Mountaineer” looked at how climbers these days can use Google Earth and Soviet military maps to find unclimbed peaks to explore. A map of all of the locations featured in the talk can be explored here.
