Storgalten

Storgalten was a big drive from our lodge but the good skiing and stunning views from the north of the Lyngen peninsula made up for it. After a tiring skin up, Will and I skiied one of the steeper gullies on the face and popped out to meet the others lower down. Another day of perfect weather.

Nordmannviktinden

Day 2 in Lyngen and the weather as brilliant as ever. We skinned up the gully towards the summit ridge to Nordmannviktinden, a steeper and more interesting line than the day before and superbly atmospheric in the mist.

Storhaugen

Our first day out in Lyngen and we eased ourselves in with a trip up the 1142m Storhaugen. The weather was absolutely ridiculous and we could never have dreamed that the conditions would be this good. Low avalanche risk, blue skies and good snow.

Avalanche training at Glenmore

Ahead of our planned ski touring in April, myself and Steve booked onto a weekend course at Glenmore Lodge along with Becky and Pete. The snow conditions were perfect for learning about avalanche danger and I particularly enjoyed the large quantities of digging and science involved in the course. It was also my first time at Glenmore and the food, dorms and facilities were superb.

Rained off in Wales

Inaccurate forecasts turned our planned climbing trip into a weekend of wet ascents in the Carneddau. Never mind!

More Welsh Rain

Hoping for a reprieve from weekends of climbing in the rain, we were sadly disappointed. An attempt on Chasm Route on Glyder Fach was abandonded and we made a soggy ascent up Y Gribin to the summits. By the time we were back into Idwal the rain had cleared a little in time for a consolatory nip up The Ordinary Route.
