Digging tunnels

On Matt and Anja's final weekend with us we hiked up the south side of Hochkönig on snowshoes, dug a big tunnel in the snow and then built a long slide to zoom through it at speed. Wahoooooooo! Beautiful snow shoeing in the mountains under an hour from our house.

Living the dream - lunchtime ski

Four powder-tastic runs on a Friday lunchtime - living the alpine dream. Desk to desk in under 2 hours! Making maximum use of the recent big white dumps - big thanks to Jeremy for the camera work and images.

Snowploughing with Erinna

Doug and Georgia were here to visit for the weekend, so I took the chance to perfect my snowplough technique with Erinna for lessons 3 and 4! We moved onto the beginnings of parallel turns and use of poles before she retired to a cafe and hot chocolate for the afternoon.

Wieserhörndl

After a full day out at Kaprun on the Saturday we fancied a shorter tour, so drove over to the Osterhorngruppe for a gentle skin up to Spielberg and Wieserhörndl. An excellent, safe pair of objectives for a short day out.

Kitzsteinhorn Glacier, Kaprun

Kitzsteinhorn

The first day of Will's visit to Salzburg coincided with a poor avalanche forecast. Rather than go out touring we headed up to the glacier at Kaprun to ski the gullies in a monstrous wind. We couldn't get too complacent however, as conditions in adjacent gullies would vary between perfect powder and horrendous windslab.
