Shepherd's Crag, Lake District
Dec 31st 2017

Little Chamonix

No matter what the weather, there's always time for one more classic rock, especially on New Year's Eve. This was Dave's third outdoor trad route, and his third Classic Rock tick. If you want to beat the queues at Shepherd's then this is the time to go!

Dave enjoyed it so much that we followed it up with Chamonix, breaking his 100% record but discovering a very lovely climb in the process. Happy New Year!

Grisedale, Lake District
Dec 29th 2017

A snowy hike

A welcome, but unexpectedly heavy dump of snow slowed the Lake District traffic to a gentle, sliding crawl. Getting to Grisedale seemed like a safe option so we went on a quick wintery horseshoe up to Great Rigg and down via Rydal Fell. Sadly, nobody could be bet into a double-pointer dip in Alcock Tarn.

Gouther Crags, Lake District

Shivering at Gouther Crag

Just because it’s late December and 1.5° at the car, it doesn’t mean that you can’t go trad climbing. En route to a New Year's week in the Lake District, I persuaded Clay to squeeze in a quick climb. After getting lost three times on the approach, Clay bravely dodged the hot aches and ice patches to follow me up the easiest route of the crag.

Schöderhorn, Hüttschlag

Schöderhorn Ski Tour

A beautiful 1500m ascent to the Schöderhorn, the perfect reminder of why we moved to Salzburg in the first place. Powder right back to the valley floor - what an amazing back garden! Thanks to Rebecca, Martin and Max for setting the Austrian pace up ahead all day.
