Commando Ridge

“Continuously excellent climbing, brilliant rock, exhilarating situations and a stunning location make this the very best VDiff in the West Country”. Sunset and low tide coincided, although this didn't stop Rob getting drenched on the approach to the first belay. Half way along the route, Rob pointed out that he hadn't bothered to bring a headtorch on this nighttime adventure, requiring an awkward abseil descent to the grassy banks below.

Sennen Cove

Day 2 of George & Rob's Cornish Granite weekend was spent at Sennen. Cracking sunshine and razor sharp rocks.

The Warm Breeze of Bosigran

The original plan was to drive to Skye, but the lure of warm Cornish granite found us quickly down on the south coast (the screws and axes stayed in the car). We spent the day at Bosigran working through some of the lower grade classics including the brilliant Doorpost and Anvil Chorus.

Tremadog Intro

Despite forcasts of heavy showers and thunder, the whole of Snowdonia was bathed in sunshine today. Myself and Clay gave Erinna an introduction to multi-pitch trad climbing at Tremadog, and then finished with a couple of the more interesting VS routes before heading back to PyB for the BMC AGM.

Google Earth at the BMC AGM

Is Google Earth ruining expedition planning? I thought no, and spent half an hour trying to convince the BMC AGM's Friday night audience to agree. Responses ranged from amazement, shock, cries of “but he's only 12”, and one particular individual was seen sobbing into his hands with horror at what the internet could achieve. Job done I think.

Birchen Edge for Beginners

Spent the morning introducing Matt to outdoor climbing at Birchen Edge. He excelled himself and followed me up some of the classic routes of the crag such as Camperdown Crawl and Topsail.
